Following the successful coach trip to The Houses of Parliament in 2012, Ken Chadwick our Speaker Secretary outlined another coach trip planned for Friday April 19th to the Cold War Bunker and Elvington Air Museum outside York. A carvery lunch will also be included in the day’s excursion.
A full house of 42 members then enjoyed an illustrated talk by Chris Freeman on the subject of “Jungle Look – Costa Rica / New York “. This talk was inspired by Chris’s partner who wrote childrens books and had embarked on one with a jungle theme. Planning a holiday to New York from where they travelled to Costa Rica gave Chris a wonderful opportunity to compare the concrete jungle of New York with the totally contrasting ecofriendly country of Costa Rica, where new jungle has been created during the past 50 years. With the help of slides and a multiscreen format we were taken on a tour of New York with its amazing buildings and parks followed by the great diversity and abundance of wildlife that Costa Rica has to offer.
Chris also included footage of active and extinct volcanoes, which were of specific interest to him.
Our next meeting on March 20th will be another illustrated talk on Saltaire by Alun Pugh.
