Building Model Aircraft

Mike gave a detailed talk on how he built the PSS 1/10 scale model Spitfire.

On static display for the meeting he had brought models of a Messerschmitt Bf109, a BAE Hawk and a North American Sabre F86. He described how he scaled up the 1/72 scale drawings and then made templates for cutting the fuselage sections from Styrofoam. He went on to say how the sections were fixed together with foam friendly glue and then covered with ordinary brown parcel paper, before painting with car type spray paint.

At the end of the presentation he gave a short talk on how to slope soar these model gliders, but unfortunately we had run out of time.

Mike had taped a small camera to the nose of one of the planes and launched it from the west side of Baildon Moor. The aerial footage can be seen by clicking here
